Radio 4's Today programme at 7.28 discussed a vote for a national British bird, organised by ornithologist David Lindo, and won by the robin.
"the people that voted, the majority, about 60% were not connected to any of the birdwatching or conservation bodies so, in other words, a completely new audience: ordinary people who have no vested interest in nature."
